AEM 6.5 end of life
AEM 6.5 is reaching the end of Adobe support in stages. Here is what ends when, what you can move to, and how to plan it.
Key dates
- AEM 6.5 LTS becomes generally available (Java 17 and 21).
- Service Pack 25 (6.5.25.0) released.
- AEM 6.5 support ends for Adobe Managed Services customers.
- Service Pack 26, the last supported AEM 6.5 service pack.
- Core support for AEM 6.5 on-premise ends.
- Extended support (critical fixes only) ends.

What changes after core support ends
- No new service packs. 6.5.26 is the last one.
- Extended support covers critical fixes only, and only until February 2028.
- Security audits begin to flag the platform as unsupported.
- The gap to AEM as a Cloud Service keeps growing: Adobe removed a first group of APIs from Cloud Service in February 2026 and has a second group scheduled for March 2027.
Your options
1. Upgrade to AEM 6.5 LTS
In-place upgrade from any supported 6.5 service pack to a Java 17 or 21 platform that still receives features. Lowest disruption, but you keep running and upgrading the platform. Compare LTS and Cloud Service.
2. Migrate to AEM as a Cloud Service
Adobe runs the platform. Your code must follow Cloud Service rules: immutable /apps, .cfg.json configuration, supported run modes only, no Classic UI, no replication agents, no removed APIs. See every incompatibility.
3. Rebuild on Edge Delivery Services
For marketing sites where speed and simple authoring matter most. Adobe's Experience Modernization Agent automates much of the import. What Adobe's AI tools cover.
A plan that works for most estates
- Run Best Practices Analyzer and our readiness scan to size the work.
- Fix removed and deprecated APIs on 6.5 first. The fixes are needed on both paths.
- Decide per site: Cloud Service, Edge Delivery, or LTS for now.
- Restructure the repository (ui.apps, ui.content, ui.config) and convert configs and dialogs.
- Run content transfer with top-ups, regression and SEO parity tests, then cut over.
