Adobe's free AI migration tools for AEM: what they do and where they stop
In 2026 Adobe made AI-assisted migration part of its own toolchain. If you are planning an AEM 6.5 migration, use these tools. This guide explains what each one covers so you can see what is left to plan.
AI-assisted code migration (Cloud Migration skill and MCP server)
Adobe describes this as an agent-based toolset that guides developers through migrating AEM 6.x, AMS or on-premise Java code and OSGi configurations. It runs inside AI coding tools that support agent skills and the Model Context Protocol, and reads BPA findings from Cloud Acceleration Manager.
- Patterns covered include schedulers, resource change listeners, replication, event listeners and handlers, deprecated asset APIs, Guava caches, HTL lint, OSGi configuration conversion, legacy UI dialogs and widgets, template modernisation and dispatcher conversion.
- It works on one pattern per session and applies changes in batches of five, pausing for developer review.
- Repository restructuring and content transfer are outside its scope.
Experience Modernization Agent (Edge Delivery Services)
Part of Adobe's Brand Experience agents, it migrates sites to Edge Delivery Services: it imports content, maps pages to blocks, applies a design system and proposes the changes as pull requests in GitHub. Access to its console goes through your Adobe account team. Adobe also offers an Agentic Outcome Engineer service in which Adobe engineers run the agent for you; that service requires the source site to be publicly reachable.
What remains after the tools
- Sequencing many sites, brands and code bases so the business keeps publishing.
- Integrations, custom authentication, workflows and asset processing that need design rather than pattern fixes.
- Regression testing: visual parity, SEO redirects, analytics tags, forms and personalisation.
- Content transfer runs, top-ups, freeze planning and cutover.
- Someone accountable for a fixed scope and price.
Our migration pipeline uses Adobe's tools where they apply and adds deterministic fact collection, estimation, test generation and an audit trail around them.
