Cloud Acceleration Manager: a practical walkthrough
Cloud Acceleration Manager (CAM) is Adobe's workspace for a move to AEM as a Cloud Service. It follows Adobe's phased approach (readiness, planning and setup, implementation, go-live and optimisation) and is where the Best Practices Analyzer report and content transfers come together.
Readiness: get the BPA report in
- Run Best Practices Analyzer on an author instance, ideally one close to production, rather than on a business-critical one.
- In CAM, use Get upload key so BPA uploads the report automatically, or download the CSV from BPA and upload it by hand.
- Use View Trendline after each new run to show the findings going down as the work progresses.
Read the two assessments
- Report Overview: findings and severity, filterable by importance, subtype and count.
- Migration Complexity Assessment: an overview of the instance, the assessment itself, and content migration considerations.
- Best Practices Assessment: custom components and templates, additional findings, slow queries and maintenance tasks.
CAM tells you what is there; it does not give you a price. To turn findings into effort, group them by code and estimate per type. Our free readiness scan does this in the browser from the same CSV, and a Blueprint turns it into a fixed quote.
Implementation: content transfer
- Create a migration set in the Content Transfer card.
- Populate it with the Content Transfer Tool on the source instance (extraction).
- Start an ingestion job into the target Cloud Service environment.
Go-live: plan the top-ups
- Adobe advises planning top-ups so that no extraction and ingestion cycle takes more than 48 hours.
- Run the production migration from production itself, not from a clone: refreshing a clone resets the Content Transfer Tool's delta checkpoints.
- Rehearse the final top-up timing on a non-production target first.
